Is Your Practice Ready for a Website Project?

If you’re launching a new practice, it probably feels like you’re juggling a thousand things: business licenses, client systems, intake forms, finances. It’s a lot. Creating a website can feel like the obvious next step. It’s often the first place people visit after they’ve heard about you — to learn more, build trust, and figure out how to reach out. It’s where you share what you do. It’s the digital home for your business.

But the truth is, not every new practice is quite ready for a website project—at least not the kind of collaborative, strategic process that creates something truly effective.

So how do you know if you’re ready?

This post will walk you through what you need to have in place before investing in a branding or website project, along with what to consider if you're not quite there yet.

A Website Won’t Solve What You Haven’t Clarified Yet

Your website can only reflect what you’ve already thought through.

If you’re still figuring out what your practice is going to look like, it’s okay to wait. A well-designed site can’t answer foundational questions for you. And if you rush the process, you might end up with something that doesn’t serve you long-term.

To get the most out of a website project, you should be able to answer:

  • What services do you offer?

  • Who are they for?

  • What makes your approach different?

  • How should someone take the next step?

  • What do you want your site to do for your business?

If your answers to those are still evolving, you might benefit more from a simpler first step, like a simple landing page or a strategy session to help clarify your direction.

When your goals are unclear, it’s difficult for your website to meaningfully support them.

Why Collaboration Matters

The best website projects are collaborative. They work when you, the provider, are clear on your goals and willing to engage in the process through feedback, content, and decision-making along the way.

If you’re hoping to completely hand off the project with very little input, you might end up frustrated or with a site that doesn’t actually fit your practice.

Designers can’t make strategic decisions for you.

I can guide, organize, and translate your ideas into a thoughtful, effective website. But I can’t guess the specifics of your services, how you want people to feel when they land on your site, or what kind of clients you’re hoping to attract.

I specialize in creating websites that align with your practice, values, and vision. That means asking thoughtful questions, providing structure, and helping you articulate your message. You don’t need to arrive with everything perfectly written, but your insight and engagement are an essential part of the process.

I bring expertise in design, strategy, and user experience. You bring deep knowledge of your work and your clients. Together, we turn that into something clear, welcoming, and trustworthy online.

What You Need Before You Start a Project

You don’t need a logo, professional photos, or a perfectly polished About page (though those are great to have). But to be ready for a collaborative website project, you should have:

  • A clear understanding of your services and business goals

  • A general sense of who you serve and how they find you

  • A willingness to engage in the process (through content, feedback, etc.)

  • At least one way for people to contact or schedule with you (even if it’s just a contact form or basic email for now)

If you’re not sure how clients will schedule with you, how you'll collect payments, or whether you’ll offer virtual sessions, we can’t build a site that supports your actual workflow. Having these systems in place, even in a basic form, makes the process smoother and sets your site up for success.

The layout and visual design of your site should support your messaging and goals, not lead the process. When you're clear about what you want your site to do, the design can reflect that. If you're still working toward that clarity, a simpler solution may make more sense for now.

Even for experienced clinicians, running your own practice is different from working within an existing clinic. Giving yourself time to shape systems and workflows that fit how you work best often leads to a more effective website project.

Not Quite Ready for a Full Website Yet?

If you’re still figuring out what you offer, who you serve, or how you want to position your practice, you might not be ready for a full website project yet, and that’s completely okay.

Sometimes a simple, clear online presence is all you need to begin. I don’t offer a one-size-fits-all “starter site”, but I’m happy to talk with you about where you are, what you already have in place, and what kind of web presence makes the most sense right now.

That might look like:

  • A simple one-page site focused on key information and contact details

  • A landing page you can share with referral partners

  • A strategic session to help you clarify your message before investing in a larger project

We can figure that out together.

What About the Brand Starter Package?

My Brand Starter Package is a focused, strategy-led website option for providers who are clear on what they offer and want a site that’s intentionally structured from the beginning.

Rather than simply putting information online, this package centers on how your messaging, layout, and user experience work together to support trust, clarity, and real business goals. It’s designed for practices that want guidance and thoughtful decision-making built into the process — without committing to a full multi-page website right away.

The Brand Starter Package includes:

  • A 1–3 page custom Squarespace website

  • Light brand styling to create a cohesive, professional look

  • Strategic content support

  • Set-up of essentials like scheduling links, forms, and basic SEO

This option is a good fit when you’re ready to make intentional choices about how your practice shows up online, even if you’re not building everything at once.

If you’re unsure whether a more contained site or a strategy-led build is the right next step, I’m always happy to talk through it with you.

You Don’t Need to Rush This

If this is your first time working on a website or hiring a designer, know that I’ll walk you through each step of the process. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. But your input does matter.

I’m here to make things simpler, not to pressure you into premature decisions or a one-size-fits-all solution.

Your website can be an incredible tool for connection and growth, but only when it’s built on a real understanding of who you are and what your practice offers.

If you're still figuring that out, you don’t need to force it.

And if you are ready? I’d love to help you bring your vision to life. Let’s build something that truly reflects the care and intention behind your work.
