What Should I Post On Social Media?

You know you need to post on your social media accounts and you're trying to manage it yourself. What do you post about? And how often should you post?

For those of you doing social media yourself...first, try to take a little pressure off yourself—it doesn't have to be perfect. And the more you do this, the better you will get.

Put yourself in your clients’ shoes—if you were them, what type of posts would you want to see? When you scroll through your own social media accounts, what do you pay attention to and engage with? What types of posts do you ignore? As a business, you may think you need to post a bunch of designed educational images but as a consumer, do you look at those types of posts? Are there ways you can present that sort of information in a way that is more engaging?

Some examples to help you think about what you could post:

Health & wellness businesses

  • Are there any sort of tips you can give your audience—Ways to stay healthy? How to recover after a workout?

  • Does it make sense for your business for the post to be a more personal post, where you share personal stories or examples of what it looks like in your own life? Connect with your audience. They want to connect with you as a person.

  • Include photos and video as much as possible. People want to see faces! And photo and video give them a glimpse of what to expect when working with you.

  • Who are the people who make your organization run? What does the day-to-day look like? Give them a behind-the-scenes look at what makes everything happen.

  • Are there any success stories you can share from your clients? Share a photo with written testimonial or a video of your client sharing their experience.

  • What is your mission statement? Vision? How can you incorporate those themes into what you share on social media?

  • What types of challenges are your clients dealing with? Are there particular questions you regularly answer for people? Address those.

Nonprofits

  • What does it look like to run your organization behind the scenes? Who makes things happen? What types of things do donations help fund?

  • Are there any stories you can tell about the work your organization does?

  • Include photos and video as much as possible. People want to see faces!

  • What is your mission statement? Vision? How can you incorporate those themes into what you share on social media?
